Lower standards for acceptable ideas, ideals, principles, minds of value surface … the dumbing down of admired behavior rises.

The world gets smaller. Globalization gets stronger. Communications get quicker. Interactions get more open, less filtered. Mean levels of active, interactive populations decrease their levels of sophistication, awareness, shading, critical abilities effecting global, national norms, acceptable thought. Samples affecting global discourse are larger and larger, less evolved, less intellectually curious, aware, questioning, doubting. Lower standards for acceptable ideas, ideals, principles, minds of value surface … the dumbing down of admired behavior rises.

Passions, need, want, revenge, autocracy have greater, unchallenged intellectual worth. From the bottom floats up mores, ideas that attract. Values of what was once deemed to be the essences of civilization can no longer be supported. Based upon the premises that they are those of an enlightened mind, and enlightened population ….. these premise are in doubt.

New parameters have new standards. Vast ideas of moral, cultural equivalence come without questioning standards. The mights of guided passions make may rights. The embraces of those seemingly disenfranchised or less powerful allow for less questioning. Standards move over time. Some directions are ominous.

Resource, will, interest desire are engines for action. Vibrant public spheres is what we got.

All good capitalists know that a society puts its resources into areas it values, areas that provide efficiency and worth. Since we, here at home, value the checks and balances of politics and power it follows that our time, treasure, attention and energy be allocated some in that direction. And it is. The hammering of partisan virtue and candidates for sale show that the wars of money and effort are there to balance the public trust. Resource is efficiently allocated and the government is a good power broker and all benefit from the process.

Watchdogs and kind, media, press, interested parties and such are in an era of access to funds, abilities, cooperation and interest so that they can serve well their function as fourth and/ or fifth branches of government. They provide bang for the buck opening up the lines of power that push and pull at the all of everyday life.

Resource, will, interest desire are engines for action. Vibrant public spheres is what we got. None rancid.

Once again. All political systems, dream political systems, mock political systems, scam systems delve into the prospective, possible, proposed balance of rights, obligations, powers between and among the individual, the society. Rights, powers, times of same supersede or not those of the other.

The rise to power may with the individual be unchecked. The rise to rule may go towards the homogenous whole defining standards, behaviors, mores, allocations of resource. Totalitarianism may crush from either direction.

The fight is always joined by those who flock to the seek the wings of the spectrum. Loyalties, hopes, hatreds ride with the aims of those who see power, unbridled through the filters of their orientations.

For ever and always we have irresistible forces, immovable objects. Synthesis works in the lands of the healthy. In the lands not so conflict is enjoined.

Over time dying newspapers and other publication go on doing that which they do but slowly and surely ability erodes, depth and passion dissipates, the framework stands as a carnival mirror image of what once was and the soul gets dried up, withered and rancid. Just emptiness and waste are all that is left.

There becomes no energy for sustenance, no money for sustenance, no will to sustenance. The soul of things is the first to go. The meat, the depth, interest, the blood, the guts.

The public sphere, in the here and now, shows to be our dying husk of of a once vital tower of use and interest.

The framework still stands. The stuff inside is drawn and dried and shriveled and voided.

Stupid as the currency of the realm

History can march. Wars can be fought, refought, suspended and rejoined. Demigods can come and go. Populations can be buried. Stupid can flourish ….. the race human never tires of the quick fix, the modeled brain, the true word, the all encompassing pacifier of totality, ideology, religiosity, cults of personality, et al and ad infinitem.

Conservative, liberal, fascist, holy holies, orthodoxies burn with the fervor of the by heaven endowed, by might made right, by stupid trained and relieved of the trouble to grapple with a world not in the image of their own pretty, petty poses.

Chaste purity wins souls, active, passionate fumbling souls, non suited to critical thinking souls, souls of minds grasping for second rate, minds dull and void and lost in the critical worlds of knock about and smashing challenge. The lack of doubt of the angels enables all of the aggression self love and self importance that a body could hope for. Our global, national, local town squares. The ones who wait in the wings to use advantages gained. Stupid as the currency of the realm.

It may be said that once, in the castle on the hill, our America, aspiring politicos and such wished to be just and good and competent folk, true of heart, of standing, sincere in virtue, learned in form and aspiring to bring along and educate a public who was able to respect said the virtues of a good and learned savant.

It may be said that once, in the castle on the hill, our America, aspiring politicos and such wished to be of a stronger stripe than most, of a more sensible stripe than most, of a more mannered and grounded stripe than most. Their rewards were in the exercise of the public trust of governance, the acute and measured use of authority, the wisdom of the ages and the management of the hammers of might and righteousness for the better good. The calling was a firm and stirring song.

It may be said that once, in the castle on the hill, our America, aspiring politicos and such wished to be the ones who set the ships of state and municipality and such in directions necessary and smart, prescient and with use of critical facilities that were honed for the exercise of best of men’s natures and honed with sharp eye to ferret out the worst.

We are worried completely and dramatically and faithfully here and all about … here and all about the state of our knowledge, our educational prowess, the mass ability of our gentry and folk to become bodies with functioning minds and minds with moving parts.

A real and noble ideal worthy of the best of our natures and the better angels of our natures. We wish smart folk and sensible folk and worthy folk to inhabit our space and time and make life a treasure for us all.

But, sadly, however, tragically, however … try as we might … work as we will …. strain as we must … some things are just beyond the pale. We strive to emulate the best of all of us in public and private life … in the worlds of power and thought, opinion and choice. Tis a sad, hard task. These are folk gifted from above. They of the natural order of things are. That which they have is unattainable.

With the absolute paucity of any serious minded public persona we are left with the constant droning on of lame second rate and third rate minds playing little boy and girl fraternity and sorority games with themselves and calling it big person actions.

We have the dead empty soulless leading the dead empty soulless who allow these wonders the public sphere and the public forum. Paralysis by paralysis. Heart and soul matters are a shriveled, dried out chimera and self important non entities suck up all of the air so that the system is useless, broken, given over to those of private power.

What are the new paradigms in our hot new world of today?

In the period between the two world wars democracy was in peril. Lost in the fascist bastions of Germany, Italy, Spain. Crushed in the Communist bastions of Russia, China, demeaned in militaristic Japan.. A disordered, unruly, economically challenged word was in need of order, stability, trains running on time.

Vague unrest. Lack of mobility. Little freedom of thought, movement, little freedom from the slavery of wages, the absence of wages, fears for survival and food, clothing, shelter, the inability to counter the gun ….. the world that drove the populus. Systems need to be trusted, feared, respected. The state rests upon the acquiescence of the poor (Chateaubriand).

The poor can be a mob, a downtrodden blight upon the earth, a handy bit of useful fodder for those who need human labor, canon fodder, drones. A state that makes comfort, survival at the benevolence of others …. those who control access to wealth, freedom of movement, wages, input into the exercise of power …. this is the state that values a system that can be handled, used, abused, given over to those who know better, who know better by all manners of might making right.

At what balances of power are we to find grace and happiness?
