We fight thee good fight hither and yon and we stand up for our national interests by encouraging our friends and martyring our enemies. We imply and infer the forces of absolute power and we wish to shape the world in an image of relentless smartness and good grace.

That we fight wars so that we can set up new ones is an accident of policy and a mistake in the seeing. Our enemies like strength. Someone always has fun in dealing with the threats of conflict. Muscle is good on its own terms but it always needs an excuse to exercise.

We fight the fight to keep us whole and broke and with benefits looming down on us all…. the winners. Right for might. Might for right. Think seven steps ahead and have new enemies emboldened. The mean world.

The creeps tell us simple tales and simple stories so that they can make the world a simple place and have the simple pleasures of the big stick come to those with the big mouth.

Ah, the usual screed about the paucity of intellectual honesty and judicious thought when it comes to trampling down the honor and virtue of hard core believers and political holy warriors.

It is good to have the return of the grand salutary hypocritical gamesmanship of the vast angry, overheated and certainly other deviled bit of business aptly called the culture wars… long on snide, happy on self serving ….. a bit short on anything resembling culture.

A vast chance for a no penalty way for all of the true believers and holy redeemers, smug snivelers and wretched self promoters, hapless dreamers and imitation thinkers to play in the sandboxes of spiteful intoxication and homey victimization. Proud they be the standard bearers for flags of morbidity and excess, shame and hubris, greasiness and dirt. The world is solace for the slavish.

Bearing and cheering, hearing and bleating, preening and stalking, tendency and ridicule; the flotsam and jetsam of meager egos thrill at the chance at the inhalation of all manner of cheap shots, liquid and other, all manners of no understanding and the line ups to throw parties for smug and pitiful. If I couldn’t hate viscerally what that rotten son of an other guy stood for there’d be no reason what so ever to pay attention to politics.

If I couldn’t see that that rotten son of an other guy was a tool of Death, the Devil, the muck of the swamp then there would be no light in my life.

If I couldn’t be blissfully ignorant in my understandings of the world, completely uninformed about the realities of opposing positions, completely in the thrall of the drunk and blood drinking message makers and their professional baiters, haters and jive crackers then I would not be able to eat or drink or think or speak in semi coherent sentences or imitations of mutterances.

If I couldn’t be sure that wild eyed socialists and anarchists were under every rock or flower or that demon fat and proud of it raging killer capitalists were behind my failure to be prom queen than I would have to change my world view and no longer choose the rose colored glasses of disdain and derision.

If I knew the difference between small government and large government then I would have to know something about any government….I would have to know something about the checks and balances of honest to goodness real world power…..I would have to not sell my soul to the big strong powers that I longed for in my sleep.

All is said and done, appreciated and derided, made holy and with avarice, foreclosed upon with eternal joy and protected by gleaming offerings of shattering strengths …. man and men, princes and flags, trumpets and tradition carries the day. … Of what poor pittance would we be were it not for tribal cultures ours honed in struggle, hardened in strife, made luminous in battle, made wonderful in belonging.

Vast groupings of heavens helpers all, having ones back, clearing paths away to ones front, chopping the charging weeds at ones sides… the banding of tribe and goodness is offered by the compassionate angels who wish to see our short comings healed, our laziness kept for rest.

Sustenance. Survival. Food and shelter. Help in the storm. Countenance for virtue….. Tribe, the beloved country. It backs us as no other…. Loyalty> Fidelity. Conformity….The virtues of belonging…the givebacks of support…the greater the great of the greater.

Position. Stance…t.reasons and reason; points of view…… Assassins in the night…..it is of and for the tribe that we toil and sweat. It is of and for the tribe we stand ready. Fight off the threatening of the whole. We are played and paid for. Dealing with the whole leaves us to our wits.
